Valerie Miles, MD
Dr. Miles graduated magna cum laude from Clemson University in 1987 with a B.S. in zoology, and went on to receive her M.D. degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in 1991. She completed her Pediatric Residency training in 1994 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, becoming board-certified in Pediatrics that same year. She served on faculty there as Chief Resident until 1995, completing one year of Academic General Pediatricsfellowship. In her first practice in small-town Colorado, Dr. Miles was first introduced to the concept of "Holistic Medicine" - bringing together the best of modern medicine and traditional healing arts – by the parents of her patients, who inspired her to learn more about nutrition and additional approaches to keeping patients well. In December of 2000, she became one of the first physicians in the U.S. to be board-certified in Holistic Medicine. After four years in private practice in Colorado, she and her family moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1999.
In August, 2000 Dr Miles established her private practice, Progressive Pediatrics (originally Holistic Pediatrics), integrating both modern and holistic medical worlds into primary care for children. Dr. Miles sees less sick and many more well children by taking an integrative approach to pediatric care, and loves what the “keeping kids healthy” philosophy does for patients. In addition, Dr. Miles is actively involved locally and nationally in educating both the public and her colleagues on topics in Holistic and Integrative Pediatrics, and speaks on the topic of nutritional education all over North America. Dr. Miles has been married to her life’s love, Gregg, since 1987, and has one daughter, Rebecca, who is an amazing artist and competitive soccer player.
